Candice Bergen, born May 9, 1946, is an American actress and former model, celebrated for her role as Murphy Brown on the CBS sitcom (1988–1998), earning five Emmys and two Golden Globes. She also starred as Shirley Schmidt on Boston Legal (2005–2008).

Bergen received an Oscar nomination for Starting Over (1979) and a BAFTA nomination for Gandhi (1982). Her film career began with The Group (1966), followed by roles in The Sand Pebbles (1966), Soldier Blue (1970), Carnal Knowledge (1971), The Wind and the Lion (1975), Miss Congeniality (2000), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), The Women (2008), and Bride Wars (2009). She modeled for Vogue, debuted on Broadway in Hurlyburly (1984), and later starred in The Best Man (2012) and Love Letters (2014). She also appeared in three episodes of Sex and the City (2000–2002).
