Has anyone ever tried to take the paint/finish off of the Rothco Brown Jump Boots?

Do these look like they are fine condition? The stitching looks like it's wearing off and I didn't know if that's a bad thing... also looks like minor "gaps" from the midsole and the sole... looking for my first pnw boots so any help is appreciated.
